Venezuela’s government has strongly condemned what it called “military aggression by the United States” after a series of powerful explosions rocked the capital city, Caracas, early Saturday morning. Following the blasts, authorities declared a nationwide emergency and ordered full mobilisation of the country’s defence forces.
Residents in several parts of Caracas reported loud explosions, thick black smoke, and aircraft flying low over the city. Similar incidents were also reported in the nearby states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira, according to official statements.
In a public address, the Venezuelan government accused the United States of launching attacks with the intention of gaining control over the country’s oil reserves and mineral wealth. It urged citizens to take to the streets and stand united against what it described as an “imperialist assault.”
“The Bolivarian Government calls on all social and political groups to activate mobilisation plans and reject this attack,” the statement said.
President Nicolás Maduro has ordered all national defence plans to be activated and declared a “state of external disturbance,” signalling heightened security measures across the country.
So far, there has been no official response from the US government. However, a report by CBS News, citing American officials, claimed that former US President Donald Trump had authorised strikes on multiple locations inside Venezuela, including military targets.
Trump has previously warned about possible military action in Venezuela and has overseen a significant US military presence in the Caribbean region. This includes the deployment of warships, fighter jets, and an aircraft carrier.
The US has long accused Venezuela of allowing large amounts of illegal drugs to enter American territory. Washington has also conducted air operations targeting vessels it says are linked to drug trafficking from South America.
President Maduro has denied all such allegations, insisting that Venezuela has no involvement in criminal activities. He has repeatedly claimed that the US is attempting to remove his government to gain access to the country’s vast oil reserves and valuable mineral resources.
As tensions rise, the situation remains uncertain, with the international community closely watching developments in the region.
