New Delhi: The national capital continued to reel under dense fog and cold weather conditions on Saturday, with winter tightening its grip across Delhi and Haryana, while parts of southern India experienced relatively stable and milder weather, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Delhi recorded poor visibility levels during the early morning hours due to dense to very dense fog, disrupting road traffic and causing delays in flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The minimum temperature in the city remained around 8–9 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to settle near 17–18 degrees Celsius, well below the seasonal average.

According to weather experts, the absence of strong sunlight and calm wind conditions have intensified the cold sensation across the capital. Air Quality Index (AQI) levels in several parts of Delhi remained in the ‘severe’ category, raising health concerns for residents, particularly children, senior citizens, and those with respiratory ailments.

In neighboring Haryana, cold wave conditions were reported in districts such as Hisar, Karnal, Rohtak, and Ambala. Morning fog reduced visibility on highways connecting Delhi-NCR, prompting authorities to advise commuters to exercise caution while driving. Minimum temperatures in parts of Haryana dipped close to 6 degrees Celsius, making it one of the coldest regions in North India at present.

Meanwhile, southern states including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh witnessed relatively stable weather conditions. Cities such as Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad recorded pleasant daytime temperatures ranging between 24–30 degrees Celsius. Light morning fog was observed in isolated areas, but no major weather disruptions were reported. Coastal regions of Tamil Nadu and Kerala may experience light, scattered showers, offering brief relief from humidity.

Meteorological officials stated that no rainfall is expected in Delhi-NCR or Haryana today, and dry weather will prevail. However, cold mornings and nights are likely to continue over the next few days.

Residents in northern states are advised to wear warm clothing, limit outdoor activities during peak pollution hours, and stay updated with official weather advisories.
